An Orchestra Of The Soul

Every movement in the eyes of a musician on an instrument is pure art. Success determines art where as failure is a dark abyss that has no way out. The artist looks for an escape and most of the time finds it. This is where the mind can take you to places unknown. In most cases it can take you on an adventure unlike any other.

Time to tune up the orchestra!

I have been playing various platforming titles ever sense I could remember. Like most early games my adventure started out with the Mario series where my love of video games initially began. So when this title came across my desk I was hopeful and excited to see what this game had to offer. Needless to say I was NOT disappointed.

Every thing in this game offers a bit of nostalgia and the most wonderful character development I have ever seen. The game introduces you to our main character Viola. Right off the first few intro sequences we see the burden she has on her. She struggles with excelling at her chosen instrument and is on the verge of giving up when she is thrust into this new world. Traversing the landscape we meet other characters who are intent on helping her overcome her problems.

Audio scoring in this game is almost next to perfect. The music ties with each stage and perfectly sums up each moment. NPC, monster or other wise, also fits well and gives a lot of the people we meet a unique complexity to the world we are in. In addition to audio scoring the game does something I haven’t seen in a while and that is using beats to determine the damage output.

Now with that being said the idea of a beat mechanic can be kind of off putting. Consistently having to be on your toes in that situation could cause a lot of replays or mishaps. Though I think the real bulk of the game makes up for just that little bit. The audio is fantastic and really paints the mood for the game. Then the story is not only adorable beyond measure but is also very thoughtful. The controls and inventory system all really flow together. Overall I would give this game a 9/10.
